Uptake of Mineral Nutrients from Foliar Fertilization (review)
نویسنده
چکیده
The aim of this paper is to review the current knowledge on the uptake of mineral nutrients from foliar fertilization. Despite many studies carried out on mineral nutrient absorption by leaf tissues, many aspects of foliar fertilization are still unknown. At present, it is believed that such fertilization of plants is a valuable complement to the application of nutrients to the soil. Foliar fertilization is most effective when soil nutrient availability is low, topsoil dry, and root activity during the reproductive stage is decreased. Foliar fertilization is also successful in increasing content of fruit Ca and cereal grain protein. It is proposed that this treatment should be recommended in the integrated plant production because it is environment friendly and increases productivity and yield quality. In the present paper, the penetration of mineral nutrients through the surface leaf layers and their uptake across the plasma membrane of the epidermal cells are discussed. In addition, environmental factors, aspects of plant biology and spray solution properties having a crucial effect on the efficiency of foliar fertilization, are presented.

In order to investigate the effect of growth media and nutrition method on the growth of Bellis perennis L. and nutrients uptake, a factorial experiment was conducted with two factors: growth media (municipal waste compost, Azolla compost, tea wastes compost) and nutrition method (without fertilizer, soil application, foliar spray) in comparison to the control medium (60% soil + 20% manure + 10...

Kiwifruit requires a high quantity of nutrients that must be supplied through fertilization to obtain an optimum yield on a sustainable basis. This research was conducted to evaluate different fertilization methods including broadcast application (as control), deep placement of the fertilizer and fertigation, alone or in combination with foliar application and their effects on the yield, leaf m...
متن کاملFoliar mineral nutrient uptake in carnivorous plants: what do we know and what should we know?
CARNIVOROUS PLANTS AS ECOLOGICAL GROUP Carnivorous plants (CPs) usually grow in nutrient-poor, wet or aquatic environments and possess foliar traps which capture animal prey (Juniper et al., 1989). There are about 600 terrestrial and 50 aquatic or amphibious species of CPs which supplement the conventional mineral nutrient uptake by roots or shoots from their environment by the absorption of nu...

certainly not a new concept to the citrus industry. For more than five decades, foliar fertilization of citrus has been recommended to correct zinc, manganese, boron, copper and magnesium deficiencies. It is now common knowledge in agriculture that properly nourished crops may tolerate insect pests and diseases. Traditionally, citrus growers try to achieve optimum nutrition through direct soil ...
متن کاملFoliar Fertilization: Mechanisms and Magnitude of Nutrient Uptake
Foliar fertilization is a widely used method used to supplement soil applications to improve the yield and quality of field crops. However, questions and uncertainty surround this practice. Numerous field trials have clearly demonstrated the uptake of foliar-applied nutrients by leaves and subsequent translocation to the fruit. In cotton, foliar-applied N was rapidly absorbed by the leaf (30% w...
